Most people think that you get results in the gym, nothing could be further from the truth. Unless you are doing it right, muscle is torn and inflamed in the gym, usually the most fun but most often the most unproductive part. Discipline, hormones (insulin, testosterone, estrogen, ghreline, leptin), eating/macros, sleep and especially, optimal and safe training is what gets results. And of course you won't get anywhere without good nutrition.
My goal is to help you overcome hurdles and reach your dreams. I analyse your body type, lifestyle and metabolism to create your individualised fitness program and personal training session, combined (as a qualified nutritionist and sports nutrition advisor) with nutritional guidance all from the gym in Goodlife Butler. Most importantly I've been standing where you are now, facing the challenges of the journey ahead.
I operate from the northern suburb of Butler, Perth in Western Australia at Goodlife Butler, I am a qualified Cert 4 Personal Trainer, Boxfit and Tai Chi certified, NLP Certified (think Tony Robins) and Certified Hypnotherapist. I cut my teeth in the era where great names such as Frank Zane, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbu, Danny Padilla, Tom Platz, Tony Person, Cory Everson and Gary Strydom to name but a few were being talked about with passion in the gym. So I know a thing or two about all facets of weight loss and personal training.
The gym I frequented then (a place called Flex in Caterham UK) consisted of concrete floors, rusty weight plates, very scarce but cracked mirrors, open doors for aircon and luke warm showers. My dreams of competing at this point were cut short by illness and a major operation, having a family and work/life balance.
My first gym job was in 1988, I have been a state level swimmer (Guinness Book of World Records at age 14), a triathlete, 1st place physique competitor, finally competing for the first time at the age of 49 after a 22 year lay off from training, beating those over half my age in some categories.
I am a Dad, partner to a beautiful woman, I have been in shape, out of shape been very time poor due to work and family commitments; we will get you to your goal together!
With 30 years of success and experience, I am more than capable of helping you reach your goals and will work alongside you providing the latest tools, technology and experience you need along side you analyzing your body and creating a fitness plan that will help you reach your goals. Most plans include healthy eating and exercise, to ensure the best results for our clients. I will work with you to keep you on track and motivated to reach your goals.
I understand that adapting new fitness habits is often difficult and at times fails. My goal is to change your view on fitness, so that it becomes a part of who you are and your lifestyle. I strongly believe that if you adopt healthy habits, you will be able to live a healthy lifestyle for the rest of your life.
Goals & Personalised Program Design - You will receive proven workouts, based on your goals, rest days and nutrition guidance, this is important for progression. Without progression and program design results will be slow or non-existent and the potential for injury is greatly increased. Program design is much more than just uploading a program from your favorite fitness website. How many times have you seen people slogging it out in the gym week after week, month after month with no results!
Nutrition - I fully understand macronutrients and their relationship to results and performance. I will teach you what foods to choose in a variety of settings, as well as how you can figure out your personal nutritional needs (calories, protein/carbohydrate/fat grams), and help you understand nutrient timing, which can have a huge impact on reaching your goals and making you look and feel better.
Motivation and accountability - Unique use of my phone APP helps me see your completed sessions and nutrition, along with your progress. Being motivated on days you feel less than stellar can be hard, and staying motivated consistently over the course of months/years can seem almost impossible. I’ll assist you in staying motivated and achieve results. We ‘ll work together to switch your mindset to continue down the path to your health and fitness goals on even your most lackluster days.
